Who Should Take These Courses?
These courses are designed for individuals who wish to become certified AHA Instructors and teach American Heart Association programs in their respective disciplines.
Prerequisites for Instructor Courses
Prior to enrollment, instructor candidates must:
- Hold a current Provider certification card in the discipline they wish to teach
- Be aligned with an authorized AHA Training Center accepting new instructors
- Successfully complete the required Instructor Essentials online course prior to the in-person session

Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor Course
Train to teach Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers and professional rescuers.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor Course

Certification Process
All instructor candidates follow a standardized, step-by-step process:
Online Essentials
Complete the required Instructor Essentials online course.
In-Person Course
Attend a hands-on, in-person Instructor Course.
Skills & Exams
Successfully complete skills evaluations and written examinations.
Monitored Teach
Teach a provider course under faculty supervision and monitoring.
Once all requirements are completed, candidates receive their official AHA Instructor certification, valid for two years.
